African National Congress Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has weighed in on the recent revelations emerging from the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, expressing concern that if proven true, the exposed police corruption could significantly hamper South Africa’s efforts to combat crime. Speaking amid the ongoing probe into allegations of misconduct and corruption within law enforcement, Mbalula highlighted the potential impact on national security and crime-fighting capabilities. The Madlanga Commission is investigating various allegations, including claims made by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. Mkhwanazi has alleged serious corruption involving criminal syndicates, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, and other high-ranking officials like Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya. These claims have sent shockwaves through South Africa’s political and security landscape, with calls for accountability and reforms.
