Maruleng Mayor Welcomes Increase in Flights to Hoedspruit
The Mayor of Maruleng Local Municipality, Cllr Tsheko Musolwa, has welcomed the announcement by Rodger Foster, CEO and MD of Airlink, regarding the expansion of flight services to Hoedspruit.
Foster confirmed that, starting from 30 March 2025, Airlink will introduce a triple-daily service from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit and a double-daily service from Cape Town to Hoedspruit. This marks an increase from the current two daily flights from Johannesburg and one daily flight from Cape Town.
Mayor Musolwa hailed this development as a significant boost for the tourism sector in Maruleng, emphasizing the growing appeal of Hoedspruit as a key destination for both domestic and international travelers.
“I welcome this announcement from Airlink’s CEO, which aligns with our long-standing call for Eastgate Airport to be granted an international licence,” said Cllr Musolwa. “The increase in air travel is not just a win for Hoedspruit but a victory for the entire travel and tourism sector in Maruleng. It strengthens our position as a gateway to Limpopo’s prime tourist destinations.”
Eastgate Airport remains the busiest airport in Limpopo, and the expansion of flight services will undoubtedly enhance accessibility to the region’s renowned wildlife reserves, lodges, and other tourist attractions.
The Maruleng Local Municipality remains committed to supporting initiatives that drive economic growth and tourism development, ensuring the area continues to flourish as a sought-after destination.
