EIGHT ACCUSED APPEARED IN COURT FOR THEFT AND CONTRAVENING IMMIGRATION ACT
LIMPOPO: On 05 August 2025, eight accused persons appeared in the Musina Magistrate’s Court for alleged theft and contravening the Immigration Act.This follows their arrest on 03 August 2025 during operation “REHONE” conducted by the Hawks, Local Criminal Record Center and Vendereinde Logistics based in Musina.
It is alleged that on 11 June 2025, an employee attached to Vendereinde Logistics received a call from an unknown individual proposing a deal to exchange a consignment of MAQ washing powder valued at R722,000.00 for R450,000.00 in cash.
The information leaked to the employer, and the employer reported the matter to the Musina based Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation (SCCI) for assistance.
Musina based Hawks SCCI, Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI), Serious Corruption Investigation (SCI), Thohoyandou Tactical Response Team (TRT) and Musina LCRC conducted a sting operation named REHONE. An entrapment was set. The driver allegedly agreed to meet the accused at a Truck Stop in Musina. Upon arrival, the accused handed the cash to the driver. Thereafter, they started to offload such washing powders from the company truck into their (accused) two trucks.
While busy offloading, the operational members were alerted and responded swiftly. The suspects were immediately put under arrest for theft. Preliminary investigations established that some of the offenders were foreign nationals and they don’t have documents to be in South Africa. They were charged for contravening the Immigration Act. During arrest, the members recovered MAQ washing powers valued at seven hundred and twenty-two thousand rand. The police also seized three hundred thousand rand in cash, two trucks and Toyota Corolla of the accused.
The accused persons Gerald Dube, Ivine Magona, Mpho Justice, Nekhumbe, Benjamin Zimhunga, Jacob Muchema, Funzani Madinginye, Stephen Chivunoita and Raymond Sithole appeared in court and their case was postponed to 13 August 2025 for bail application.
