EFF STATEMENT ON MALAMULELE DEPARTMENT OF LABOUR SATELLITE
OFFICE LONG QUEUES.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Limpopo is deeply concerned by the
endless overcrowding and long queues at the Department of Labour Satellite offices
in Malamulele in the Collins Chabane Municipality, compelling poor clients to sleep
outside the facility as they can barley afford travelling costs.
The EFF notes with concern that the centre is not performing its functions effectively,
despite experiencing large numbers of UIF applicants who have been directly affected
by retrenchments resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and the high unemployment
rate. The backlog of UIF claims is extremely high and little is being done to assist the
desperate former employees in accessing their money.
Some clients have since submitted their claims in June this year but until now,
progress is close to zero. Other contributing factors are load shedding and shortage
of water, which delays the functionality of the centre. This situation is synonymous to
what is happening to the labour office in Makhado.
The department must provide more facilities to fast track services in order to minimize
congestion in the currently affected centres. It is necessary for the department to beef
up its staff members to ensure that the issue of long waiting hours is resolved with
speed.
We call on the department, the Vhembe District Municipality and other stakeholders
to come on board, with a solution to expedite service delivery at above-mentioned
labour office.
Further delays in addressing the status quo will plunge our people into direct poverty
amid rising cost of living and lack of jobs, therefore the EFF will continue demanding
for additional resources to be put in place.
The EFF will monitor the situation as it unfolds, if nothing changes, together with the
residents of Malamulele and the affected individuals, we will use every revolutionary
and democratic possible means to address this injustice robbing our people of their
hard earned money.
