THE PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER WELCOMES LIFE TERM IMPRISONMENT HANDED DOWN AGAINST MURDER CONVICT

POLOKWANE: The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the life sentence handed down by the Polokwane High Court on Tuesday 04 October 2022 against a 32 year-old accused who was convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend.

The convict, Mahlatsi Steven Rapelwana who was on parole for an attempted murder case has allegedly murdered a 21 year old ex-girlfriend at Mopye village in Bolobedu South on 26 December 2020 at about 03:00.

It is reported that Steven accosted his ex-girlfriend who was coming from a tavern with friends and protested why she dumped him.

An argument ensued between the couple and the suspect reportedly stabbed the victim with a sharp object and she immediately succumbed to her injuries on the scene.

A case of murder was opened at the Tzaneen police station and assigned to the experienced hardworking and dedicated investigating officer, Warrant Officer Samuel Dikolobe who managed to apprehend the suspect the very same day after the incident.

Warrant Officer Dikolobe ensured that the murder suspect was never granted bail until his life term imprisonment in Polokwane High court.

“I would like to thank the dedication and commitment displayed by Warrant Officer Dikolobe for the immediate response and apprehension of the suspect who was on parole for an attempted murder at the time of the incident. He made sure that individuals like Steven are permanently removed from the society” concluded the Provincial Commissioner Leutanant General Thembi Hadebe.
