BREAKING NEWS: SELF PROCLAIMED PROPHET ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED RAPE

Controversial Zimbabwean preacher Walter Magaya has been arrested on multiple rape and fraud charges.

In an early Saturday raid at his Waterfalls church headquarters, police took Magaya into custody. According to Commissioner Paul Nyathi, investigations involve alleged financial misconduct and repeated sexual abuse claims.

The arrest recalls the 2016 allegations by Midlands State University student Petronella Donhodzo Mandaza, who accused Magaya of rape. The case took a bizarre turn after Mandaza attempted to withdraw her complaint, citing death threats. She later died in Botswana, leaving her allegations unresolved.

Magaya’s ministry has long courted controversy. In 2018, he claimed to have discovered a cure for HIV and cancer, a claim condemned by health authorities and resulting in a conviction under the Medicines Control Act.

In 2025, the University of South Africa denied that he had ever studied there or earned any qualifications he claimed.

Multiple other sexual abuse allegations have also surfaced over the years.

Legal experts say the case is a test of Zimbabwe’s justice system and the accountability of influential religious leaders. Social media reactions, under hashtags like #MagayaArrested, show growing public demand for transparency and justice.

As the investigation continues, the nation watches closely, with many hoping Magaya’s arrest signals a reckoning for powerful figures who exploit faith for personal gain.
