BREAKING NEWS : ANC Seeks Creative Ways to Regain Black Middle Class Vote Amid Growing Disillusionment
The African National Congress (ANC) has expressed concern over losing the support of the black middle class, citing corruption, poor governance, and slow transformation as key reasons for the disillusionment. This admission comes ahead of the party’s national general council, a mid-term review forum.
Research indicates that the black middle class has surpassed the white middle class in numbers since 1994, largely due to government-led economic transformation and empowerment policies. However, the ANC notes that this group, which once favored the party, is now shifting towards other political parties.
The ANC attributes this shift to a period of anti-intellectualism within its leadership structures. To regain the black middle class vote, the party proposes creating professional forums where this group can discuss policy ideas and feel heard, as traditional branch structures may not appeal to them.
