POLOKWANE: The Police at Rankin’s Pass in the Waterberg District are investigating an incident in which a 40-year-old man driving a tractor was swept into a flooded river while attempting to cross a low-water bridge at Tweestroom.

It is alleged that on Monday, 22 December 2025, at approximately 17:30, the employer contacted Rankin’s Pass police after receiving information that one of his drivers was approaching the low-water bridge at Tweestroom while driving a tractor.

According to reports, the driver attempted to cross the flooded bridge but unfortunately misaligned the tractor with the width of the bridge and drove off into the flooded river. He was never seen again after the incident.

The Search and rescue teams were immediately activated and conducted a search; however, the driver was not located.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Hadebe, urged motorists to avoid crossing flooded rivers, low-water bridges, and roads covered by water, warning that no destination is worth risking a life.

The search operation and police investigations are continuing.
