BREAKING NEWS : SAPS Shows Signs of Improvement, Says National Police Commissioner

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has made notable strides in addressing internal challenges, according to National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola. Testifying before parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating allegations of corruption, criminality, and political interference in the police, Masemola highlighted significant improvements since KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s damning media briefing on July 6.

Masemola attributed the progress to enhanced operational efficiency, particularly in case enrolment. “Some of the matters have improved. The enrolment of cases has improved drastically,” he said. “In the past, it would take various members or tremendous effort to get cases enrolled. There’s been a difference since then.” This development is a welcome respite for SAPS, which has faced intense scrutiny over its handling of high-profile cases and allegations of corruption.

The ad hoc committee continues to probe Mkhwanazi’s allegations, which sparked a wider examination of SAPS’s internal workings. Masemola’s testimony suggests that SAPS is taking concrete steps to address its challenges and restore public trust. As the investigation unfolds, the nation watches with bated breath, hoping for a more efficient and corruption-free police service.
