BREAKING NEWS: ROBERT MUGABE J.r ARRESTED
Robert Tinotenda Mugabe Jr., aged 33 and son of the late former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, has been remanded in custody after being arrested in central Harare on charges of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.
According to court documents, Mugabe Jr. was stopped by police officers during a traffic blitz on Second Street Extension in Harare at about 8 p.m. on October 1, 2025.
He was reportedly driving a silver Honda Fit against traffic. When stopped, a search was conducted on a sling bag worn across his chest in which police found two sachets of dagga (cannabis), a pack of rolling papers, and a dagga crusher.
The State alleges that the seized cannabis weighed 72 grammes, with a street value of approximately US$30. A weighing certificate was obtained, and the exhibit was officially recorded.
At his hearing in Harare Magistrate’s Court, the State opposed bail, arguing that drug and substance abuse pose a threat to national stability and development. Mugabe Jr.’s lawyer contended that his client is not a flight risk, given his fixed residence. Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki deferred the ruling on bail to the following day.
This is not the first time Mugabe Jr. has run afoul of the law. In February 2023 he was involved in an incident at a house party in which he allegedly smashed vehicle windows and damaged property. That case was later withdrawn after he paid compensation.
