A 32 YEAR-OLD MALE SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT AND ADDITIONAL 10 YEARS FOR ASSAULT GBH OF HER MOTHER
POLOKWANE Seshego Regional Court sentenced 32-year-old accused man to life imprisonment for rape and an additional 10 years imprisonment for assault with intend to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) following an incident thàt happened at Seshego.
The court heard that on Monday 05 February 2024 at about 21:00, the accused was staying with his mother at their residence Seshego Extension 75B when he met her in the passage and tried to rape her. The victim fought and screamed for help and their neighbours came for her rescue.
The victim was also assaulted by her son and the incident was immediately reported to the local police who acted swiftly and managed to arrest the accused the same day in the evening.
The case docket was transferred Seshego Family Violence Child protection and Sexual Offences Unit and allocated to Sergeant Nation Teffo who displayed sterling detective skills to oppose bail until he secured the conviction and subsequent sentencing.
On Thursday, 28 August 2025, Seshego Regional court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment for attempted rape and an additional 10 years for assault GBH. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm, and his name will be added to the National Register for Sex Offenders .
