PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER DECRIES MOB JUSTICE FOLLOWING MURDER INCIDENT AT GA-MOLEPO, MANKWENG
POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has strongly decried an incident of mob justice that resulted in the brutal killing of a 25-year-old man at Ga-Molepo, Maripathekong, in the Mankweng policing area.
According to reports, on 05 May 2026 at about 05:40, police were summoned to a local hospital. Upon arrival, members were directed to the deceased, who was positively identified by his mother as Sekele Maime Simon (25). Information at this stage indicates that the victim was allegedly attacked and set alight by members of the community on Sunday, 26 April 2026, after being suspected of involvement in housebreaking incidents in the area.
The victim was admitted to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police in Mankweng have opened a case of murder.
The Provincial Commissioner further expressed grave concern regarding incidents of mob justice, emphasizing that such actions are unlawful and undermine the rule of law.
“Mob justice is a serious violation of the law and cannot be tolerated. Community members are urged to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead report criminal activities to the police so that due process can be followed,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
