A 61-YEAR-OLD MALE SENTENCED FOR THABAZIMBI CORRUPTION CASE
POLOKWANE: The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the successful conviction and sentencing of a 61-year-old male for corruption by the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
The accused, Patric Edward Fahey (61) was sentenced on Tuesday, 05 May 2026 to eight (8) years imprisonment or a fine of R50 000-00, which R25 000-00 was deferred, and will be paid in monthly instalments of R5 000-00.
The conviction stems from an incident that occurred on 14 September 2022, where the accused, who was employed as an electrician specialising in control and instrumentation at a local mine in Thabazimbi, demanded a gratification of R250 000-00 from the complainant in exchange for securing contracts.
The complainant reported the matter to the Limpopo Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit, leading to the registration of an enquiry. Following further investigation, the accused was apprehended after accepting a cash amount of R5 000-00 from the complainant.
Following his arrest, the accused appeared before the Thabazimbi Magistrate’s Court on several occasions before the matter was transferred to the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, where it was finalised.
“We commend all the members involved for their diligence and commitment in ensuring that justice is served, reiterating that corruption in any form will not be tolerated,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
