TINMYNE POLICE INVESTIGATE INQUEST FOLLOWING DROWNING INCIDENT AT MOGALAKWENA RIVER
POLOKWANE: Police in Tinmyne are investigating a case of inquest following the drowning of a 15-year-old boy at the Mogalakwena River, next to a local hospital, on Friday, 23 January 2026.
It is alleged that six (06) boys from Marulaneng Village went to the river to swim, including the victim. Unfortunately, the victim was reportedly swept away by flood.
Community members and parents were alerted, but the victim could not be found.
Police were notified, and the Police Rescue Team was informed. A search and rescue operation commenced on Saturday, 24 January 2026, at 08:00, with assistance from the Mogalakwena Mine Rescue Team. Despite extensive efforts, the body has not yet been recovered.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has urged community members to exercise caution near rivers and flood-prone areas, particularly during the rainy season.
Investigations and search efforts are ongoing.
