POLICE CONTINUES WITH JOINT OPERATION TO LOCATE TWO OCCUPANTS OF TOYOTA HILUX BAKKIE THAT WAS SWEPT AWAY BY THE RIVERFLOW AT TSWINGA VILLAGE

POLOKWANE The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe urges community members and drivers to resist the temptation of crossing overflowing rivers, streams and bridges. This follows a social media video captured on Saturday, 17 January 2026, depicting a white Toyota bakkie swept away while trying to cross the bridge at Tswinga village, outside Thohoyandou in Vhembe district.

According to the information, on Saturday 17 January 2026 at around 13:00, the police were summoned to bridge in Tswinga village. On arrival at the scene, they found members of the community near the river bank. The police were informed that a white Toyota bakkie with two occupants, a driver, and passenger was swept away by overflowing water while trying to cross the bridge.

Immediately, a search operation team comprising of SAPS Search and Rescue (Water wing), Emergency Medical Services , and K9 members were activated. The search operation continues at this stage.

The two occupants and the vehicle are still missing while the search is being intensified.
