UPDATE: IDENTITY OF A WOMAN KILLED IN MANKWENG WALL COLLAPSE REVEALED
The identity of a woman who has lost her life in the collapse of a wall at Student Supermarket has been revealed.
Pauline Letsoalo – a shop worker at the store died on the scene of a tragic collapse of the wall at the Indian – owned shop on Wednesday afternoon.
Letsoalo – who was going to turn 36 years of age next week Wednesday, is originally from the Mankweng area.
Executive Mayor of Polokwane, John Mpe visited the scene on Thursday morning and also sent his condolences to the grieving family.
Mpe says they are working with the police to take action against the building’s owners.
“We were never issued an occupational certificate. This building is non-compliant. We are disappointed by the owner of the building. The safety of our people is much more important than profit. It is unfortunate that we are here when a life has been lost. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased. This is a painful reminder of why we continue to place strong emphasis on building safety and compliance across our municipality,” says Mpe.
