A serious incident has caused a lot of concern in the community of Veeplaas, located in the Eastern Cape.
A 63-year-old man from New Brighton was caught and assaulted by local residents after accusations emerged that he had been involved in abusing several children.
According to reports, he would lure young children with treats like sweets and bread before assaulting them.
Witnesses say the man had been targeting children for several weeks, and suspicions grew among the community members. The situation came to a head when locals noticed a young girl leaving the man’s home upset and crying.
Anger boiled over, and the residents confronted him. They physically assaulted him before calling the police to take control of the situation and prevent further violence.
Authorities confirmed that the man was arrested and is now facing multiple charges related to sexual assault and rape. A police spokesperson urged the community to allow the legal process to take its course, warning against taking justice into their own hands.
Local child protection groups have spoken out against the alleged crimes, condemning them as extremely cruel and harmful.
