BREAKING NEWS : Malema Demands Police Commissioner, Mkhwanazi To Testify Before Parliamentary Committee

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has insisted that KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi appear before the parliamentary ad hoc committee investigating allegations of political interference in the police force.

Mkhwanazi is scheduled to testify before the judicial commission of inquiry into criminality, political interference, and corruption in the criminal justice system, chaired by retired Constitutional Court justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, on September 17.

However, Malema argues that Mkhwanazi’s testimony before the Madlanga commission should not delay his appearance before the parliamentary committee. “We must make one point very clear, we are not going to be told by Mkhwanazi what must happen and what must not happen,” Malema stated.

Ad hoc committee chair Soviet Lekganyane explained that Mkhwanazi requested to appear before the committee on September 24, after completing his engagement with the Madlanga commission. Five of the seven witnesses have confirmed their appearance before the committee, with hearings set to commence on either September 16 or 22.

The parliamentary committee was established in August following Mkhwanazi’s bombshell allegations during a media briefing. Malema emphasized the importance of Mkhwanazi’s testimony, stating, “He needs to be called; the sooner we call him the better.”
