HAWKS ARRESTED SUSPECT FOR ALLEGED FRAUD AMOUNTING TO OVER R99 000.
LIMPOPO: On 24 July 2025, the Phalaborwa based Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation arrested a suspect (42) for alleged fraud amounting to over R99 000.
During 2018, the suspect was working at the office of Human Resource Executive of the mine in Gravelotte.
She allegedly borrowed money from the employer under the pretense that her mother was admitted to the private hospital, and she has run out of money for payments.
The suspect allegedly submitted hospital documents to the employer as proof that she needs the funds.
The mine allegedly borrowed her cash amounting to over R99 000.00.
The suspect failed to pay back money until she resigned from the mine.
The mine launched investigations and discovered that the mother of the suspect was never admitted to the hospital.
Subsequently, a case docket of fraud was opened at Gravelotte police station and transferred to the Phalaborwa based Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation (SCCI) for further handling.
The Hawks investigations established that the suspect submitted fraudulent hospital documents to the mine.
After completion of the investigations, the matter was handed to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for decision. As a result, the NPA issued a warrant to arrest the suspect.
She was traced and arrested by the Hawks at Honeydew on 24 July 2025.
She is expected to appear before Gravelotte Magistrate’s Court on 28 July 2025.
The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo Province Major General (Adv) Gopz Govender condemned the acts of the suspects. Major General Govender further makes a plea to the employers to be vigilant when dealing with external documents brought by their employees.
