TWELVE SANDF OFFICIALS GRANTED BAIL
GAUTENG: Sunnybooi Pinny Wambi, Edward Albert van Deventer, David Mogaditswe, Kgosietsile Letsatsi, Samkelo Ngwenya, Jonathan Nteleza, Paulos Matlou, Herbert Mashego, Solomon Lechoenyo, Jacob Mokoena, Richard Mpoetsi, and Olyn Lenardus appeared before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court today, 11 July 2025 where they were each granted R10 000 bail.
The accused appearance in court, is in relation to the brutal murder of Lieutenant Colonel Frans Mathipa, who was fatally shot while driving on the N1 highway near Hammanskraal on 06 August 2023. Following the shooting, his vehicle lost control and veered into a ditch.
Lieutenant Colonel Mathipa, who was attached to the Hawks’ Crimes Against the State section within the Serious Organised Crime Investigation in Gauteng, was on duty conducting an investigation at the time of his death.
The accused are also allegedly linked to a case of kidnapping of two male foreign nationals at a mall in Midrand on 29 December 2022.
The case has been postponed to 17 July 2025 for the appeal of bail judgement .
