POLOKWANE HIGH COURT HANDS DOWN TWO LIFE SENTENCES TO MALE ACCUSED CONVICTED OF MURDER
POLOKWANE: The Polokwane High Court, on Friday, 06 June 2025, sentenced 57-year-old Komane Daniel to two life terms of imprisonment for murder, as well as an additional eight years for assault. The crimes took place on 21 October 2019 at Ga-Makata, within the Mankweng policing precinct.
On the day in question, the bodies of 56-year-old Mokgohloa Daniel and 57-year-old Mashapa Mack were discovered murdered and burned in the Molepo area, Ga-Makata.
A case of murder was opened and assigned to Detective Sergeant Zacharia Mangena, whose exemplary investigative work led to the arrest of Mr Komane Daniel and five other suspects. All six were granted bail of R3,000.00 each, and the case was referred to the Polokwane High Court for trial.
During the trial, the court found Mr Komane Daniel guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of the assaults and murders. He was convicted on the following charges:
*Two counts of murder – sentenced to two life terms of imprisonment
*Two counts of assault – sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment
Additionally, the court declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, applauded Detective Sergeant Mangena for his outstanding investigative work and welcomed the court’s judgment. “This sentence should serve as a strong deterrent to anyone contemplating committing violent crimes,” she said.
