38-YEAR-OLD SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR ARSON FOLLOWING NEIGHBOUR DISPUTE IN NHOMBELANI VILLAGE, MALAMULELE
POLOKWANE: – A 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an arson incident that occurred at Nhombelani Village on Friday, 7 June 2025.
Police reports indicate that at approximately 11:20 on the above mentioned date, a male complainant heard a dispute between two neighbours in the village. When the complainant attempted to intervene and quell the fight, the suspect allegedly threatened to burn down his mud hut.
The suspect proceeded to ignite a fire on the complainant’s mud hut, which burned down completely along with all belongings inside. Despite efforts by the complainant and community members to extinguish the flames, the fire could not be contained.
Police were called to the scene and immediately
commenced with investigations. A manhunt was launched for the suspect, who was successfully apprehended.
The total damage is estimated at R15,000, including the mud hut structure and all belongings that were destroyed in the fire.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 9 June 2025, facing charges of arson.
