TWO FORMER HOME AFFAIRS OFFICIALS GRANTED BAIL FOR FRAUD INVOLVING ILLEGAL IDENTITY DOCUMENTS
POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit has arrested three suspects aged between 37 and 57 in connection with fraud charges relating to the irregular issuing of identity documents to unqualified illegal immigrants.
The arrests stem from complaints received on 26 June 2024 and 23 August 2024 by an investigator at the Department of Home Affairs. An official from the Senwamokgope Home Affairs office reported that the two females and one male had allegedly issued Identity Books to unqualified illegal immigrants without following the correct legal procedures.
The matter was immediately referred to the Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit (ACIU) for a comprehensive investigation. Following thorough investigations registered at Sekgosese Police Station in Mopani District, the cases were forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for decision, resulting in warrants being issued against all three suspects.
On Wednesday, 21 May 2025, coordinated operations across Limpopo and Gauteng provinces led to the successful tracing and arrest of the suspects. The accused, Jackson Mashapa Mantlhakga (37), Elisabeth Motshidisi Mokoena (41) and Masesi Yvonne Lebisi (57), appeared before the Senwamokgope Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 22 May 2025.
During court proceedings, the case against Mokoena was withdrawn pending further police investigation. Mantlhakga and Lebisi were each granted bail of R2,000, with the matter postponed to 4 August 2025 for further proceedings.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the diligent work of the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit.
