POLICE SEIZED SUSPECTED PRECIOUS MINERALS AND APPREHENDED TWELVE SUSPECTS DURING OPERATION VALA UMGODI
POLOKWANE: Police deployed at the Limpopo Province Operation Vala Umgodi, arrested twelve (12) suspects aged between 18 and 49 for engaging in illegal mining activities, possession of suspected precious minerals, and contravention of immigration laws at Giyani and Malamulele Policing areas on Saturday, 17 May 2025.
In Giyani Policing area, one (01) male suspect aged 41 was arrested for illegal mining and possession of suspected precious minerals at the identified illegal mining site in Mavalani Village. During the arrest, the Police seized a shovel, head lamp, and a bag of suspected precious minerals.
Meanwhile, eleven (11) suspects aged between 18 and 49 were also arrested after they failed to produce passports, during the Police stop and search duties at the Malamulele and Giyani Policing areas.
The suspects will soon appear before their local Magistrate’s Court.
