LIMPOPO HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO CONDUCT INDUCTION FOR MENTAL HEALTH REVIEW BOARD
Health MEC Dr. Phophi Ramathuba will, on Tuesday, 27 June 2023, officially open the induction for the mental review board at Bolivia Lodge in the Capricorn District. Mental Review Board (MRB) is a legal body established to review the mental state of individuals who may pose a danger to themselves or others and to evaluate the person’s mental capacity, determine the level of risk they pose, and recommend appropriate treatment or confinement measures.
The Mental Review Board induction will provide an avenue for regular review of an individual’s mental health status. This is essential as mental health conditions can change over time, and periodic assessments can ensure that individuals receive the appropriate level of care and treatment and ensures that individuals are not unjustifiably detained and provides a legal framework to challenge any unjust confinement.
“We are confident that this induction will provide an effective and efficient intervention mechanism for dealing with individuals experiencing mental health challenges, ensures that the society’s health and welfare are protected and provides a legal framework for regular review of mental health status. People living with mental illness can now receive help and support they require to lead fulfilling healthy lives,” said MEC Ramathuba.
