Accused appears in court for culpable homicide and reckless driving

Mninikhaya Mvuli appeared at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates` Court this morning charged with five counts of culpable homicide and a count of reckless driving.

The 56-year-old learner transport driver was arrested after the vehicle he was driving was involved in an accident that left five learners dead and some with injuries.

The learners who were passengers in the vehicle were on their way to various schools around the Mitchells Plain area.

Mvuli told the court that he intends to apply for bail, and his case has been postponed until next Monday, 5 June 2023, for a bail application date. The state will oppose his bail application.
