Umalusi launches an online system to replace lost or damaged certificates
Umalusi held a webinar titled “Innovatively replacing your lost or damaged certificate
issued by Umalusi” on Thursday, 30 March 2023. The purpose was to officially launch the
newly implemented Online Application System for Replacement Certificates.
Candidates can access the system from anywhere (home or office) via a cellphone or
personal computer to apply directly to Umalusi to replace their lost or damaged
certificates. The new system has significantly reduced the turnaround time and costs
involved in replacing a lost or damaged certificate.
At a cost of R137.00 a candidate can collect a replacement certificate from Umalusi
within 2 workings days of the application. Alternatively, a candidate can pay R202.00
(R137.00 for the certificate and R65.00 for courier fees) to have the certificate sent within
7 working days to their chosen physical address anywhere within the borders of South
Africa.
Excited by this important innovation, participants gave commendations to Umalusi. For
example, one of the attendees said “I used the online application system for my lost
certificate and received it”. Someone from the university sector commended: “Online
verification of results will be very helpful to Universities during registration periods”.
Because Umalusi believes that learning from other systems helps in improving own
practice, also presenting in the webinar was the Kenya National Examinations Council
(KNEC). The KNEC spoke about a similar system catering for all examination-related
queries which has been in use in Kenya since July 2018.
The webinar was attended by officials from education stakeholder organisation in South
Africa, Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) and Kenya National Examinations Council
(KNEC).
The presentations delivered are accessible on the Umalusi website (www.umalusi.org.za).
