EFF CONDEMNS PREMIER STAN MATHABATHA’S LOUSY RESPONSE ON SOPA
DEBATE.
Thursday, 02 March 2023.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Limpopo condemns in the strongest
possible terms Premier Stan Mathabatha’s lousy State of the Province Address
(SOPA) response which was riddled with self-praise while thin on issues
affecting ordinary residents of Limpopo.
Mathabatha failed to outline the inefficiencies in service delivery in the
province and how the Limpopo government is going to address the socioeconomic conditions such as economic transformation and job creation during
today’s sitting in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature.
The EFF notes with shock that in less than 15 minutes the Premier was already
finished responding to the SOPA debate, demonstrating that the ANC led
government under his premiership, no longer has interest in serving the
people of Limpopo.
He spent ample time boasting about his post matric qualifications instead of
taking the province into confidence on how municipalities as the coalfaces of
service delivery would enhance service delivery and provide water, including
bulk social infrastructure, roads, sanitation, electricity, as well as other social
amenities such as Early Childhood centres.
One of the key areas of concern the Premier failed to respond to is how will
government address the conflict encountered in the Fetakgomo/Tubatse SEZ,
where communities are threatening to boycott the project because they have
not been adequately consulted. There was no commitment on when all
primary health facilities in the province would render healthcare services
uninterrupted on a 24-hour basis.
The Premier deliberately missed an opportunity to update the people of
Limpopo on investigations regarding corruption in Norjax, which is the
tomatoe agro processing plant in Tzaneen. Millions of rands have been stolen
in that project and yet the premier turned a blind a blind eye and chose not to
report on it in his SOPA response.
The Premier shied away from bread-and-butter issues while the people of
Sekhukhune need a mega City. We are relieved that Mathabatha’s empty
response has reaffirmed that there is indeed nothing left in the ANC than a last
kick of a dying horse.
The public must rest assured that the EFF machinery is oiled enough to take
over government in 2024 with a clear commitment to restore good
governance, build state and government capacity in which public sector will
serve the needs of the poor and the marginalised.
