A POLICE OFFICER AND ONE FEMALE LOST THEIR LIVES FOLLOWING A HORRIFIC ACCIDENT WHICH LEFT FOUR OTHER PEOPLE WITH SERIOUS INJURIES

POLOKWANE: The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Police, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe is saddened by a horrific accident that took away one of SAPS officers, on Tuesday, 07 May 2024 at around 07:30 at Doorset policing area.

According to reports, the Police Officer Lieutenant Colonel Monama was traveling in a white Polo VW saden along R33 Lephalale and Vaalwater road with three other people going to work, when he met his death.

A white VW Polo with four occupants collided head-on with a white Isuzu bakkie, a driver, and a passenger traveling from Lephalale and Vaalwater.

Two people, including the officer from a white VW Polo vehicle, passed away instantly, and others were seriously injured and rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile, the other two people from a white Isuzu bakkie vehicle were also rushed to the hospital after sustaining serious injuries.

The deceased were identified as Monama Kgasi Johannes, aged 57 (male: Police officer) and a 54 year old woman who’s identity will be released in due course.

Circumstances that led to the accident will be determined by further Police investigations.

Police opened a case of culpable homicide.

“As Limpopo SAPS, we have lost a real cop who performed his job diligently by putting criminals at bay. We send our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, friends and colleagues. We wish them strength to pull through this ordeal. Those who sustained injuries, we wish them a speedy recovery,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.
