A MALE SECURITY GUARD NABBED IN MECKLENBURG RELEASED ON BAIL FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER

POLOKWANE: A 34-year-old male suspect, Ngobeni Kagiso, appeared before the Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, facing a charge of Attempted Murder. He was granted R3000 bail and will appear again on Monday, 30 March 2026, for further investigation.

The arrest follows an incident that occurred on 10 February 2026 at about 06:00 at Tjibeng Village, within the Mecklenburg policing area.

It is alleged that the complainant, who is employed at a local Chrome Mine, was at his rented accommodation at Tjibeng Village, woke up to the sound of gunshots outside his residence. Upon investigating, he reportedly observed a group of community members engaged in a confrontation with security officers regarding the alleged illegal chrome mining activities.

The complainant stated that he was standing at his gate, some metres away from the scene, when a security officer allegedly fired a shot, striking him in the lower body.

The victim was transported to local hospital, where he received medical treatment and was later discharged.

Police members responded to the scene, and the suspect was pointed out and subsequently arrested. A rifle loaded with 30 live rounds of ammunition was seized as part of the investigation.

Police investigations are ongoing.
