SEBAYENG POLICE ARREST A 37-YEAR-OLD SUSPECT FOLLOWING FATAL DRAGGING INCIDENT AT GA-DIKGALE SOCCER GROUND

POLOKWANE: Sebayeng police have arrested a 37-year-old male suspect, who is a taxi owner, in connection with a murder case following a tragic incident that occurred at a soccer ground in Ga-Dikgale, within the Sebayeng policing area.

The incident occurred on Thursday, 25 December 2025, at about 16:12. Police received a report that a soccer spectator had been dragged by a motor vehicle during a soccer match. The 29-year-old victim sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to a local clinic for medical treatment. He was later transferred by ambulance to Mankweng Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His identity is currently being withheld pending investigations.

According to preliminary information, an argument reportedly erupted among team spectators, during which the deceased’s bag was allegedly taken and placed inside the suspect’s taxi.

The deceased reportedly approached the taxi driver and pleaded with him to return his bag. The driver allegedly refused and drove off. The deceased then attempted to block the vehicle by standing in front of it. During the process, he reportedly fell to the ground and was knocked down and dragged by the vehicle until it stopped on the R81 road.

Police registered a case of murder, and a 37-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the incident. The taxi involved has been confiscated as part of ongoing investigations.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 29 December 2025, on a charge of murder.
