POLICE LAUNCH MANHUNT FOR MOTHER AFTER NEWBORN BABY GIRL FOUND ABANDONED IN MAKOTOPONG

POLOKWANE: The Police in Sebayeng have launched a search for a woman who allegedly gave birth to a baby girl and later abandoned her at Makotopong, Kgatla Section, near a Brick Yard, on Sunday morning, 19 October 2025, at about 06:00.

According to information, a female passerby discovered the newborn baby girl abandoned along the road under a thorn tree. The infant was wrapped in a black jersey and placed inside a plastic bag. The woman immediately called for help from community members, Police, and emergency medical services.

Upon their arrival at the scene, Police found the baby still alive and crying. She had no visible injuries. The child was taken to a local clinic for medical attention and is reported to be in stable condition.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have information that can assist in locating the mother of the baby to contact the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Lucy Ngobeni, at 082 565 6764 or 082 729 0399, or report to the nearest police station. Alternatively, call Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or use the My SAPS App.
