HANYILE IN COURT FOR ENQUIRY AFTER FAILURE TO APPEAR FOR TRIAL
Bonginkosi Khanyile, who is charged with incitement to commit public violence as well as charges of contravention of the Disaster Management Act, relating to the unrest that took place in KwaZulu-Natal in July 2021, appeared in the Durban Magistrates’ Court today for an enquiry into his failure to attend court.
His appearance is as a result of his failure to appear in court on Monday, 03 March 2025, where trial proceedings in the above matter were set to get underway. A warrant of arrest was subsequently issued for his arrest, and was arrested on 04 March 2025.
Following the enquiry, the court reinstated his bail, after its provisional forfeiture. The court’s condition was that the trial starts on 06 March 2025.
The case was adjourned for that reason.
