The Apprentice Level 1 role is the first step in a structured apprenticeship journey that can span up to three years. During this period, successful candidates will receive practical, hands-on workplace exposure combined with formal technical training. The aim is to develop competent, safety-conscious, and highly skilled Motor Mechanic Technicians who meet industry standards and contribute meaningfully to service excellence.

Role Purpose
The primary purpose of the Apprentice Level 1 position is to support qualified Technicians and the Service Department in the maintenance, servicing, and repair of motor vehicles. Under close supervision, the apprentice will gradually develop technical competence, mechanical understanding, and practical workshop skills while adhering strictly to safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
The apprentice will report directly to the Manager: Service, and will work closely with experienced Technicians, Workshop Controllers, and other service staff. This role demands enthusiasm, discipline, attention to detail, and a strong willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
As an Apprentice Level 1, your responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following areas:
Vehicle Repair Assistance
- Assist qualified Technicians with the repair, servicing, and maintenance of motor vehicles in accordance with manufacturer specifications and workshop standards.
- Carry out basic mechanical tasks under direct supervision to ensure accuracy, safety, and quality of workmanship.
- Observe and learn diagnostic and repair techniques used by experienced Technicians.
Component Removal and Replacement
- Remove and replace vehicle components and units as instructed, ensuring correct procedures are followed.
- Assist with the removal and fitting of wheels, batteries, air filters, oil filters, and other basic vehicle components.
- Clean, inspect, and prepare parts for reinstallation or replacement.
Workshop Operations
- Jack up vehicles safely and position trestles correctly, following approved safety protocols.
- Lubricate vehicle components and change engine oils under supervision, strictly according to manufacturer manuals.
- Support all general vehicle repair activities as directed by the Technician or Workshop Controller.
Training and Development
- Attend all prescribed technical, theoretical, and level-based training courses as part of the apprenticeship programme.
- Apply newly acquired knowledge and skills in the workplace to improve performance and competence.
- Demonstrate continuous improvement and a commitment to completing the apprenticeship successfully.
Housekeeping and Tool Care
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment at all times.
- Clean parts, tools, and equipment after use and ensure they are stored correctly.
- Keep personal protective equipment, overalls, and work areas clean and presentable.
Safety and Compliance
- Adhere strictly to all occupational health and safety regulations and workshop safety rules.
- Use tools, machinery, and equipment responsibly and only as trained or instructed.
- Report unsafe conditions, damaged tools, or potential hazards immediately.
General Support Duties
- Perform any other reasonable duties as required from time to time in support of workshop operations.
- Assist colleagues and contribute positively to teamwork within the service department.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for the Apprentice Level 1 position, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Grade 12 (Matric) qualification with Pure Mathematics and Physical Science.
- Preference will be given to candidates who hold a Technical Matric or relevant technical subjects.
- A genuine interest in motor vehicles, mechanical systems, and automotive technology.
- Willingness to commit to a structured apprenticeship programme of up to three years.
- Ability to follow instructions, learn quickly, and work effectively under supervision.

- A valid South African Driver’s License.
