MODIMOLLE REGIONAL COURT SENTENCES ACCUSED FOR POSSESSION OF STOLEN MOTOR VEHICLE

POLOKWANE – The Modimolle Regional Court has on Tuesday, 19 August 2025, sentenced Phillemon Rakgoale (48) to a fine of R12 000 or two (2) years direct imprisonment, with a further six (6) months imprisonment suspended for five (5) years, after being found guilty of possession of a stolen motor vehicle in terms of Section 37 of the Criminal Procedure Act, Act 51 of 1977.

The case stems from an incident on 17 May 2023 at about 01:00, when members of the Public Order Policing (POP) Modimolle intercepted a white Opel Corsa Lite, reported stolen in Linden, Johannesburg, in May 2023, during a stop-and-search operation near the Kranskop Toll Plaza.

The matter was then transferred to the Modimolle Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit, where it was meticulously investigated by Sergeant Jacob Monyeki, ultimately leading to the conviction and sentencing of the accused.

Rakgoale was out on bail throughout the trial until his sentencing this week.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the sentence, commending the members involved for their vigilance and outstanding investigative work that ensured the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the successful prosecution of the accused.
