TWO DUE TO APPEAR IN COURT FOR THEFT OF OVER R6 MILLION
GAUTENG: Two suspects aged (34) and (36) are due to appear before the Alexandra Magistrate Court on Thursday, 17 July 2025 for theft following the execution of a warrant for their arrest on Wednesday, 16 July 2025.
During the period, November 2023 and January 2024, Capitec Bank experienced an incomprehensible system glitch and during that time a client, one of the suspects noticed the glitch and unlawfully transferred an amount of over R6 million into his Capitec business account as well as credit card. The suspect then distributed the money into various bank accounts and bought two vehicles. As such, the bank only managed to recover just over R2.4 million suffering an actual loss of over R4 million.
The matter was reported to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation where a thorough investigation was conducted which led to the arrest of the pair following the execution of a warrant of arrest on Wednesday, 16 July 2025. The pair are due to make their first appearance before the Alexandra Magistrate Court on Thursday, 17 July 2025.
