LIMPOPO FCS SECURES LENGTHY SENTENCES AGAINST ACCUSED INVOLVED IN THE RAPE OF AN ADULT
POLOKWANE: Burgersfort Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit of the SAPS has secured significant conviction against individual involved in the case of rape perpetrated against an adult.
The sentences were handed down by the Burgesfort Regional Court on 30 April 2024.
During the incident that took place on the 1st of May 2022 in Tubatse Magisterial District at Burgersfort , a 19-year-old girl was raped by a 29 year-old man after the victim went to visit his boyfriend. The accused Milford Equal Lesele gave the victim a lift after hitchhiking his white Toyota Quantum and on the way he passes her stopping point and proceeded with her to Steelpoort were he forcefully undressed and raped her.
The accused was arrested in May 2022 after the victim opened a rape case. The accused now aged 31 was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. The court further declared him unfit to possess a firearm. The accused was given bail until he was found guilty on the 12th of March 2024.
The Provincial Commissioner of police Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the sentence handed down to the rapist.
