SUSPECT FATALLY SHOT AND POLICE OFFICER WOUNDED DURING DOMESTIC COMPLAINT RESPONSE IN MANKWENG POLICING AREA
POLOKWANE: The Police in Mankweng are investigating a case of inquest and attempted murder following a tragic incident that occurred during the response to a domestic complaint last night, Monday 22 April 2024.
According to the report, officers from SAPS Mankweng were dispatched to the address after a reported domestic incident in Ga-Nchechane village at about 23:30. Upon arrival, the officers encountered a volatile situation, wherein the 46-year-old hostile man was armed with a slasher blade and hammer.
In the course of attempting to defuse the situation, the suspect attacked the responding officers, resulting in one officer sustaining multiple injuries .The suspect continued to assault the officer who was lying on the ground and disarmed him.
Despite the inherent danger, one of the officers swiftly acted to neutralize the threat posed by the armed suspect, ultimately resulting in the suspect being fatally shot.
Regrettably, one of the dedicated officers sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.
The IPID has been informed about the incident and investigations are currently underway.
The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the incident and urged members of the community to refrain from violent behaviour when faced with domestic related challenges.
“We extend our thoughts and prayers to the injured officer and wish him a speedy recovery, ” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe
Police investigations are still continuing.
