MAN (27) SENTENCED TO EFFECTIVE 12 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDER
POLOKWANE: The Regional Court in Modimolle on Thursday 29 February 2024 convicted and sentenced Oscar Nduma Madzhie(27) to an effective 12 twelve years imprisonment after he stabbed to death a male victim in Bela-Bela in 2021.
The court heard that on 08 August 2021, the accused stabbed a 29-year-old man with a knife on the street, and when the wounded victim tried to escape, he chased him down to his house in an informal settlement.
The victim, upon arrival, collapsed and died at the scene.The accused, without showing any sign of remorse, insulted the victim’s mother and left.
The case was investigated by Captain Dana Smith attached to SAPS Bela-Bela.The accused was arrested, and the investigating officer successfully opposed bail until the hefty sentencing was passed on Thursday. The court further declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm.
The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the sentencing and commended the investigating officer for excellent work and professionalism.
