POLICE IN GIYANI INVESTIGATE CASES OF MURDER AND ATTEMPTED MURDER FOLLOWING MOB ATTACK INCIDENT AT MPEPULE VILLAGE

POLOKWANE: The Police in Giyani are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder, following a mob attack incident that occurred at Mpepule village, wherein community members assaulted a 34-year-old man and his girlfriend. The male victim was burned in his vehicle.

The Police were summoned to the scene together with Emergency Medical Services. Upon arrival, they found a male victim burned inside a vehicle. Meanwhile, his girlfriend was found helplessly outside the vehicle, and she had sustained serious injuries. The man was certified dead and identified as Lydon Sithole of Giyani section F.

Preliminary investigation established that community members accused the deceased of stealing copper cables around the village. Further investigations found that the deceased was allegedly, hired by four males for transportation purposes, and he dropped them at the local tavern.

He was ordered to wait for them at a soccer field, and they would phone him when they were done. He then parked his vehicle at the said soccer field and waited for them, accompanied by his girlfriend.

The Police opened cases of murder and attempted murder. The female victim was taken to the local hospital for medical attention.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo SAPS Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the incident and reiterated that community members should contact the Police if they caught criminals without taking any illegal actions.
