MOKOPANE POLICE INVESTIGATE A CASE OF VIGILANTISM FOLLOWING MURDER OF ALLEGED BURGLARY SUSPECT

POLOKWANE: Police in Mokopane are investigating cases of murder and burglary after the community went on a rampage, caught an alleged burglary suspect and brutally assaulted him. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon, 14 February 2024, in Mokopane Ext 12.

The Police received reports of the incident at approximately 14:30, and they immediately proceeded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the suspect severely injured and in possession of some of the stolen properties.

The suspect was quickly transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to the injuries.

According to preliminary investigation the suspect was linked with two cases of burglary committed in this area.

“We strongly condemn the actions of those who participated in this attack.Vigilantism undermines the rule of law and threatens public safety,” said Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Hadebe.

” It is imperative that justice is served through the appropriate legal channels. We urge anyone with information about this incident to come forward and contact the police to ensure that those responsible are held accountable according to the law,” Concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.

The suspect’s identity will be revealed at a later stage.
