SEVEN ILLICIT MINING HOLES CLOSED THROUGH REHABILITATION OF THE LAND BY BOKONI PLATINUM MINES

POLOKWANEThe concerted efforts of the South African Police Service in the Sekhukhune District jointly with Bokoni Platinum Mines had on Tuesday 13 February 2024 commenced with the closing of illicit mining holes through Operation Vala Umgodi with the aim of complying with the mining act for the process of rehabilitation of the land.

The closing of seven illegal mining holes within the 4km diameter at Zeekoegat farm under the mining rights of Bokoni Platinum Mines commenced as part of the rehabilitation of the land as prescribed by mining act.

Operation Vala Umgodi multidisciplinary forces that included the South African Police Service and the South African National Defence Force in conjunction with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy are monitoring the situation as it unfolds.

According to the operational plan led by Bokoni Platinum Mines the rehabilitation activities are anticipated to conclude within a period of five days.
