A 31 YEAR-OLD MALE SUSPECT FOR MURDER OF A WOMAN IN GILEAD POLICING AREA EXPECTED IN COURT

POLOKWANE: A joint operation that was conducted on Saturday 27 January 2024 led to the arrest of a 31 year-old male suspect for murder of a 33 year-old woman in Gilead policing area.

The suspect was arrested by the members of Mokopane and Gilead Detective Units together with Laudium crime prevention at Laudium informal settlement in Pretoria, Gauteng province. During an arrest, the suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm believed to have been used to commit the crimes.

On Monday 22 January 2024 at about 19:30, three male suspects entered the house of a 33 year-old woman at Kgalakwena village and fired multiple shots that killing the woman instantly. Afterward, the suspect stole two (02) cellphones and fled the scene driving in an unknown motor vehicle.

The motive of the incident is unknown at this stage, and the deceased was identified as Selaelo Molefe.

The suspects proceeded to Sadu village and robbed a foreign national of an undisclosed amount of cash and property from his Spaza. During the robbery, the victim was shot on the upper body but was not killed. The motor vehicle they used was later found abandoned along Matlala and Gilead road the next day on Tuesday, 23 January 2024. It appears the vehicle experienced mechanical problems at Matlala policing area.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Mahwelereng Magistrate Court soon to face charges of murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
A manhunt of the other two suspects is currently underway .

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers praised the teams involved in the operations that resulted in the arrest.
