POLICE SERGEANT ARRESTED FOR EXTORTION GRANTED BAIL
POLOKWANE: The 42-year-old Police Sergeant, stationed at Tshamutumbu police station has been released on R1,000 bail following her arrest on Monday, 18 December 2023 for allegations of extortion.
The case has been postponed to 31 January 2024, by the Mutale Magistrate’s Court for further police investigation.
Prelimenary investigation suggests that on Sunday, 10 December 2023 the suspect went to the local shop and loaded groceries worth R954.00 into her private motor vehicle and threatened that she will continue taking the items until the owner paid up all the outstanding money.
The owner of the shop alleged that during 2021, the suspect sold illicit cigarettes valued at R190 000 to her, and he paid through installments, the remaining balance was about R15 000, and he promised to pay the outstanding amount when he got money.
The owner reported the incident to the police, and the extortion case was opened and then transferred to IPID for further investigation.
Police investigations are still continuing.
