ONE OF THE THREE INMATES ESCAPED AT SASELAMANI POLICE CELLS RE-ARRESTED

POLOKWANE: A 32-year-old awaiting trial inmate, Dumisani Respect Chauke, charged for two counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, was this morning, on Sunday, 05 November 2023 re-arrested at Madonsi village in Malamulele Police precinct.

This is after three awaiting trial male suspects aged between 32 and 33 escaped from Saselamani Police detention facility in the early hours of Thursday, 02 November 2023.

According to the information, the Police officers on duty on Thursday, 02 November 2023 at about 03:26 am when they were conducting a routine of hourly patrol duties , heard an unusual noise from the cells. Upon arrival in the cells, they discovered that three of the inmates escaped through the roof.

Circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.

Police are still on manhunt for the two remaining escaped detainees:

  1. Mikateko Ronald Chauke (33) arrested for Burglary.
  2. Jimmy Matirhele (32) arrested for Burglary.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has
welcomed the re-arrest of Dumisani Chauke and ordered the Police to work with speed to recapture the remaining suspects. She further called upon the community to provide any positive leads to ensure the swift apprehension of the escapees.

Anyone with information that can assist to rearrest the escapees should contact the Investigating Officer Detective Captain Nkhangweleni Tshilande at 072 728 1504 or SAPS Crime Stop at 08600 10111 alternatively report to the nearest Police Station or can also share it anonymously on MySAPSApp.

Police investigations are still continuing.
