A 28-YEAR-OLD SUSPECT LINKED WITH ROBBERIES AND CARJACKINGS CASES AT MUSINA NABBED

POLOKWANE: The Police in Musina, Vhembe District, had in the early hours of Tuesday, 31 October 2023, arrested a 28-year-old male suspect allegedly involved in cases of robberies and carjacking at Musina policing precinct.

According to information, the Police were alerted about an incident of robbery and carjacking wherein security guards traveling from Gauteng to Musina were attacked by suspects. The incident took place on Tuesday, 31 October 2023 at around 01:30 at N1 road stop sign towards Musina town. On arrival at the scene, one of the security guards identified himself. Allegedly, the security guards were traveling in a Toyota Quantum when they found a road barricaded with stones and poles at the said stop sign. Upon stopping their vehicle, three males emerged and attacked them with stones. The suspects then pulled the driver out of the vehicle and jumped into the driver’s seat, one of the security guards fired shots at the suspects. One died instantly, the other one sustained serious injuries, and the third suspect managed to escape.

The injured suspect was arrested at the scene and taken to the hospital under Police guard. The one shot dead is unknown at this stage.

Police opened cases of carjacking and inquest.

Meanwhile, on 30 October 2023 at around 08h30, two females were driving in a VW Polo at the N1 road towards Musina town, when they were approached by a group of suspects driving a sliver VW Polo.

The suspects allegedly fired shots at the victim’s vehicle, and the driver stopped. Suspects quickly ran to the victim’s vehicle, pushed the driver to the backseat, and drove with them.

They went to the bushy area and robbed them of their bank cards and cellphones. They handed the victim’s car keys and instructed them to drive away.

The victims reported the incident to the police and opened a case of robbery and carjacking for further investigation.

The arrested suspect might be linked to similar cases or robberies and carjacking in the area. He will appear before Musina Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on Wednesday, 01 November 2023.
