ADDITIONAL SUSPECT IN MALELANE CASH-IN-TRANSIT HEIST TO APPLY FOR BAIL

Suspect Martin Mnisi (29), has today made his first court appearance before the Malelane Periodical Court on charges of attempted murder , robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition, conspiracy to commit to a crime, contravention of explosives Act and defeating the ends of justice.

Mnisi is also facing similar charges and has made court appearances at KaBokweni and White River Courts, respectively.

He will be joining three police officers and four civilians, who were granted bail of R5000 each by the Tonga Magistrates’ Court last week Tuesday, 03 October 2023.

Accused two, who is a Tanzanian National, abandoned his bail. Mnisi’s arrest brings the total number of the accused to eight.

It is alleged that a group of unknown men ambushed a Fidelity Armoured vehicle driving on the R570 road between Malelane and Schoemansdal on 11 August 2023.

The group was driving a Mercedes Benz C Class and rammed the cash van, which overturned. It is further alleged that security guards were forced out of the vehicle, and high calibre rifles were used on the scene where one security officer was disarmed.

The case against Mnisi was postponed to 16 October 2023 for a formal bail application.

Due to the seriousness of the offences the accused is charged with , the state is opposing bail, and the accused is remanded in custody pending the outcome of his bail application.
