LIMPOPO HEALTH DEPARTMENT COMMENDS A NURSE FOR HER HERIOC ACTS AT AN ACCIDENT SCENE

Limpopo Health Department wishes to commend Sister Rose Leso, the Operational Manager for Ikageng Clinic at Fetakgomo, and also an Ideal Clinic Champion at Sekhukhune District.

This morning, on her way to work, she came across an accident scene in which a pedestrian was critically injured after he was hit by a car.

Sister Leso immediately jumped off her car and managed the patient as best best as she could right in the middle of the road in order to preserve his life while calling Emergency Medical Services. With no paramedic close to the scene, EMS dispatched the helicopter to the scene. Sister Leso provided a pin drop, assisted with the road closure and with safe landing of the helicopter. Her swift response and actions played a huge role in saving the life of the patient in a very critical moment. The concern and empathy that she has displayed at the scene bestows so much pride not only to the department but also to nursing as a noble profession.

Sister Leso could have chosen not to be bothered since she was not on uniform because she was on her ideal clinic duties. But she has proven that nursing is not about the uniform and the proffession, but a heart for fellow humans.

Through Sister Leso’s intervention, the patient was airlifted to Polokwane, where he is receiving medical care.

Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba says Sister Leso is a herione. “We are proud of what Sister Leso has done at the accident scene. She has once again proven that we still have a lot of nurses who don’t look at their jobs as a proffession, but a calling.”
