GANG MEMBERS SENTENCED TO LIFE PLUS 37 YEARS IMPRISONMENT

The Limpopo Polokwane High Court has convicted and sentenced Matsobane Dominic Maseamo (24) and Moyahabo Ramakgolo (20), of Nyakelang section Botlokwa, to life plus 37 years imprisonment, for two counts of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. During the trial, the accused pleaded not guilty, and the state witnesses testified that on 03 August 2019, in Botlokwa, the accused grouped themselves as gang members in the community.

They came across the deceased Chitaruman, assaulted and stabbed him with a knife, they then left him bleeding on the scene. After the ordeal, they met another victim, who they also stabbed. The accused persons proceeded to an Indian shop, upon arrival, they pointed to the deceased Arago Hindeso Mitore, with a firearm, ordered him to open the door, and stabbed him while robbing the shop of cigarettes and money.

In aggravation of the sentence, the state Adv. Patrick Magoda submitted that the accused are not remorseful as they continued to terrorise the people and the community was living in fear due to gang-related crimes. The prosecutor further argued that there are no substantial or compelling circumstances, for the court to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence. The NPA is pleased with the good work done by Adv. Magoda and investigating officer Sergeant Takalani Mulaudzi, of Botlokwa Detective Unit. We hope that the would-be offenders of these crimes will learn from the sentence imposed.
