EX-HUSBAND SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDER

The Westonaria Magistrates` Court sentenced 39-year-old Fezile Lomo, to 15 years direct imprisonment for murder, and a further 6 months imprisonment for assault with grievous bodily harm. On 24 December 2021, the accused went to his ex-wife Nomvuyiseko Ncebe’s house, and found her sitting with her boyfriend Sakhumzi Siyo, and her two friends. Lomo got angry when he saw Ncele in the house. He left and later come back with his cousins. The accused forced himself in the house and started fighting with the deceased. Lomo confronted the deceased and Ncele intervened by getting between them.

Ncele saw that the accused had taken out a knife and stabbed her in her arm, as he intended to stab the deceased. The complainant fell to the ground after the stab and Lomo managed to stab the deceased.

The postmortem shows that the accused stabbed the deceased 10 times. Lomo was at large, from the night of the incident, until he handed himself over to the police with his attorney on 31 December 2021.
The state successfully opposed his bail application and he remained in custody until the matter was finalised on 27 July 2023.

In arguing for a firm sentence, the state Advocate Moss Malahlela argued that the offence that the accused was convicted of is very serious and is prevalent, not only in the court’s jurisdiction but throughout the country.

The NPA commends the outstanding work of Adv. Malahlela and Investigating Officer Sergeant Ephraim Maatshe, for ensuring that the accused is brought to book and justice is served.
